The German Society for Computational Linguistics and Language Technology (GSCL) is the scientific association in the German-speaking countries and regions for research, teaching and professional work in natural language processing. We support the cooperation with neighbouring disciplines (e.g., linguistics and semiotics, computer science and mathematics, psychology and cognitive science information science) and keep contact with the respective associations.

March 16, 2022: We follow the statement of the ACL. Like ACL, the GSCL is committed to peace and condemns any form of violence and harassment. We are also committed to peaceful co-operation, mutual understanding, and tolerance across borders.
We condemn in the strongest possible terms the actions of the Russian Federation government in invading the sovereign state of Ukraine and engaging in war against the Ukrainian people. We stand together with Ukrainian NLP colleagues, the Ukrainian people, Russian NLP colleagues and Russian people who condemn the actions of the Russian Federation government, and all those around the world who have been impacted by the invasion.
September 23, 2021: The GSCL Special Interest Group "Text Technology" invites paper contributions for the 2022 JLCL special issue "Challenges in Computational Linguistics, Empiric Research & Multidisciplinary Potential of German Song Lyrics". [Call for Papers]
September 9, 2021: Every two years, the GSCL awards two prizes, each worth 400 euros, for the best Bachelor thesis and for the best Master thesis in the field of language technology and computational linguistics. The winner in the category Bachelor for the selection round 2019-2021 is Yannic Bracke (University of Potsdam) for his work and presentation on the topic "Automatic text classification with imbalanced data - Building a frame classifier from a corpus of editorials". In the Master's category, Marie Bexte (University of Duisburg-Essen) won, whose work was entitled “Combined Analysis of Image and Text Using Visio-Linguistic Neural Models - A Case Study on Robustness Within an Educational Scoring Task”. We warmly congratulate the winners on their excellent work.
August 30, 2021: The GSCL Talks are back from the summer break. We will start on September 16, 2021 at 4 p.m. with a talk by Prof. Dr. Alexander Koller (Saarland University) on the subject of "Compositional Semantic Parsing" (details here).
June 27, 2021: Under the link https: //gscl.org/de/resources materials are now available that were developed following up the GSCL Ethics Workshop 2020. The collection contains teaching materials on the subject of ethics in natural language processing as well as a questionnaire designed to help the future organizers of GermEval Shared Tasks.
